Blueliner
Web Development Services

Blueliner.net Screen Capture

Launched May 2007

Founded in 2003, Blueliner Web Development Services is the official name of my web development business. Though, typically I just do business under my name. This version of the web site was built in 2007 as a mirror of this web site.

People always ask me, "What is Blueliner mean?" A blueliner is an alternate term for a hockey defenseman. When a team is in the attacking zone, the defenseman's job is to stay near the blue line to prevent the puck from leaving the zone. Hence, Blueliner. I've played defense for 15 years.

Kennametal Inc.

Kennametal.com Screen Capture

Launched June 2004

Between 2002 and 2004, I was employed at Kennametal in Latrobe, PA. It was there that I learned the true benefits that a good web site can provide a company of any size.

It was during my second year there that I spear-headed a major design and architectural change to the Kennametal corporate web site. The graphic design solved many problems that users were having with screen size, and also satisfied the marketing department who was creating all materials with a "blue steel" theme.

On the backend, the site was configured to be easily translated into multiple languages. In the initial launch, we added custom sites in French, Spanish and for the UK.

The design of the site has since changed, and unfortunately I do not have any better screen caps of my design.

Kennametal Industrial Products Group

KennametalIPG.com Screen Capture

Launched October 2003

Between 2002 and 2004, I was employed at Kennametal in Latrobe, PA. It was there that I learned the true benefits that a good web site can provide a company of any size.

I developed this site for Kennametal IPG to be simple, and easy to maintain by users in that organization that aren't exactly web-savvy, but capable.

It's nice to see that the design and site are still in use today.

GPSatWork.com

GPS at Work Screen Capture

Launched January 2005

GPS@Work was a start-up company that sold GPS devices to install into vehicles and offered web applications that geographically tracked the movements of the devices.

I built a simple brochure-ware web site for the company that briefly described the services, contact information, news items and pricing information.

The company has since closed, but a demo of the site is available.

Big Dog Vending

Big Dog Vending Screen Capture

Launched March, 2002

Big Dog Vending is a company that distributes vending machines, such as gumball machines and coffee makers. They also run Dart Leagues all across the Pittsburgh area.

They use their web site to promote their business and to post Dart League statistics and standings.

I also designed the company's logo, which is my favorite logo design to this day.

Lytehouse Bay Candle Company

Lytehouse Bay Candle Co. Screen Capture

Launched October, 2003

This was a project I put together fo a small, home-based candle manufacturer. The web site allowed the owner to sell her candles and supplies to anyone in the world. Leveraging PayPal's shopping cart tools kept client costs down.

National Sports Challenge

National Sports Challenge Screen Capture

Launched July, 1999

The National Sports Challenge was the first attempt, that I know of, at creating a tournament for Playstation gamers to compete to be crowned the best Madden 2000 player in Pittsburgh.

The website I built for this client was used to promote tournaments and to post standings and statistics.

It was a great idea, but I think slightly ahead of its time. And promotion was difficult due to the lack of social networking on the internet at the time.

US Army Corps of Engineers

US Army Corps of Engineers Screen Capture

Launched February, 2000

As an intern for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, I was responsible for maintaining and improving the intranet for the Pittsburgh District. They were kind enough to buy me a copy of Macromedia Flash, a technology that was new and hot at the time, and I quickly dove into toying with the product.

Interestingly, they allowed me to make one of my first Flash creations the home page for the intranet. And if you view the demo below, you might just flash back to early 2000, when sites like these, with their mediaocre vector graphics and animations, were all too common.

Trilogy

Trilogy Screen Capture

Launched February, 2000

In an attempt to capitalize on the Pop Band rage of the late nineties, a local trio of performers formed Trilogy, an all-girl pop group.

As far as I know, they recorded a demo, hired me to build a web site, then fought over the creative direction of the group and broke up. That's Hollywood for ya...

John Damratoski
Contemporary Metal

John Damratoski Screen Capture

Launched October, 2003

This web site is another simple, brochure site meant to display the work of John Damratoski. He created spectacular handrails, tables and artworks.

The gallery on the site was promotion enough, but the services pages provided more information about his work.

Penn State University
Orientation 100

Orientation 100 Screen Capture

Launched November 1997

In 1997, I earned a job with Penn State University in the Office of Information and Communications. Their main responsibility was freshmen orientaiton. I built a web site called Orientation 100, it had a read and quiz format. Students would read a page about a certain topic at Penn State, and then be quizzed on afterward.

I created a character called "The Dean" who guides the student through the website. If you look closely, The Dean is just an Elbonian (a Dilbert character) with a different hat on.

AmericanForum.net

AmericanForum.net Screen Capture

Launched January 2004

I built AmericanForum.net in early 2004 as a way to capitalize on the buzz surrounding the upcoming Bush/Gore presidential election. I also had an hour long commute to and from work at the time and listened to a lot of political talk radio, so I knew what was going on in the world.

I successfully built up a user base in only a few months, and was approached by a buyer that April. I sold the site and made a profit... Mission accomplished!

Personal Themed Resume

Themed Resume Screen Capture

Launched June 2001

I built this themed resume for a class project in college. It was a fun little project to build an interactive resume, I took things a step further and gave it an "America's Most Wanted" theme.

If you view the resume, please note that it is not up-to-date!

ImageCuts.com

ImageCuts.com Screen Capture

Launched August 2004

The Adjutor Photo & Statuette Company is a small shop with big ideas. They specialize in taking photographs and turning them into stand-up, wooden statuettes. Over the years, they've positioned themselves as a leader offering this service to photographers across the country.

With the boom in digital photography, Adjutor had to adjust as well. Their solution was ImageCuts.com, a web site where photographers and individuals can upload and maintain albums of digital photographs, and use the site tools to place orders for statuettes. Now, Adjutor's clients enjoy the value-added ease-of-use that a web site can provide.
