This Project Spotlight focuses on the features and functionality of 5thAce.com, the website of Fifth Ace Entertainment, a Pittsburgh-based entertainment provider.
Dan Koch is the owner of Fifth Ace Entertainment, and has allowed me to detail some of the features and functionality of his website which you can read below. This project is a great example of how a website can improve a company's image, service and efficiency.

In this project, it was extremely important to design a website that, at first impression, conveyed a message of fun, youthful energy. The design had to let the user know that this entertainment company could be trusted to ensure that the user's guests would have a great time at their event.
On the front page, two large billboards are front and center, promoting the company's primary services, DJs for Weddings, and DJs for Night Clubs. To the right, smaller panels display the secondary services of Karaoke and Party DJs. The top-right panel is for customer logins.
The bottom of the page features a panel photos of 5AE customers enjoying their events, each a visual testimonial to 5AE services. Finally, a listing of upcoming events quickly informs the user that this company is active in the Pittsburgh entertainment community.
All of these items visually builds a trust in the user, that the service of Fifth Ace Entertainment will not let them down.
Dan needed a solution that would cut down the amount of time he spent managing customer interactions. Time is money, and when you spend most of your time managing financial transations, paperwork, phone calls and face-to-face meetings, you don't have time to land new customers and grow your business.
The customer interface of 5thAce.com was designed to automate the daily and routine business processes that Dan formerly performed manually.
Now, users sign contracts and submit payments through their customer control panel. They submit the names of people participating in their wedding/event and also request songs to be played (or not be played) at their event.
Dan's administration panel allows him to quickly access customer email addresses and phone numbers, payment records and account balances. Behind the scenes, automatic emails are periodically generated for each customer notifying them of their account information and dates of when balances are due.
All of this information is stored in a database where, on the date of the event, Dan's DJs can access and print this information in a report to take with them to the event. Dan used to spend hours managing all of this information per client. Now, his website does all of this work for him.
It was important to Dan that he have the ability to change the content of his website on demand, without having to submit a request for me to do it for him. Thus, an intuitive content management system (CMS) was put in place for him.
Through this CMS, Dan can change the text of any page that details his services. He can update all of his company's contact information, including his hours of operation, phone numbers, email addresses and maps. And a photo gallery manager allows easy manipulation of site photos.
When an event is scheduled using CRM, that event is automatically placed onto the site's public events calendar. Adding testimonials is a breeze, they can even be ranked to ensure that the most glowing reviews are at the top of the page.
But that's not all, not only can Dan maintain content, but each of his DJs has the ability to publish their own DJ Biography and Top 30 Favorite Songs List.
All of the power of this website is in the hands of its administrators, enabling Fifth Ace Entertainment to fully leverage its functionality for the benefit of business.
When the wedding or the party is over, that doesn't mean that Fifth Ace Entertainment says good-bye to the client. Referrals are a big part of Dan's business, so it is important to maintain a positive relationship with clients long after thier event date.
Built into the website's backend are scripts that help to keep these relationships fresh.
Three weeks after every wedding and party, the CRM system emails a thank you to the customer that includes contact information, details on 5AE's referral program, and instructions on how to submit a testimonial to publish on the website.
But it doesn't end there, each year thereafter, a Happy Anniversary message is emailed to every wedding bride and groom, thanking them for allowing Fifth Ace Entertainment to share their special day with them.
5thAce.com is the vehicle that ensures that a 5AE customer remains a 5AE customer.
